• Virgin Mobile USA announced its title sponsorship of the upcoming Britney Spears concert tour. The tour, to be titled “Virgin Mobile Presents the Circus Starring Britney Spears,” is due to kick off in New Orleans on March 3. In conjunction with sponsorship of the tour, Virgin Mobile plans to launch its new Ocean 2 multimedia device.
• The Financial Times launched a new version of the FT.com Web site optimiszed for mobile devices that uses Bango’s mobile analytics to provide an understanding of the traffic to the site and track responses to marketing initiatives.
• Acting FCC Chairman Michael Copps announced that David Furth will be the acting chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. Since September 2006, Furth has served as associate bureau chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, where he played a lead role on issues like the 800 MHz rebanding proceeding and the 700 MHz public safety broadband proceeding.
• Juniper Networks hired a former Nortel Networks executive as its executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Lauren Flaherty will oversee Juniper’s global marketing activities.
