• Iridium Holdings LLC and GHL Acquisition have agreed to merge. The proceeds of the transaction will let Iridium to be debt-free as it moves ahead in developing its next-generation satellite constellation, Iridium NEXT. The transaction values Iridium at roughly $591 million enterprise value. Following completion of the transaction, the combined enterprise will be renamed Iridium Communications and will apply for listing on the NASDAQ.
• Performance Technologies’ Advanced Managed Platforms (AMP) will be used by WINGcon, a wireless telecommunications consulting company in Germany, for European railway communication systems. The AMP system will be used for WINGcon’s GSM-Railway communication solutions that include blackbox recording center (BBRC), short message service center (SMSC), short message service (SMS) gateways, location-based services, as well as billing mediation devices.
• The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has tapped Powerwave Technologies to upgrade its public safety wireless communications networks. Earlier this year, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began replacing its legacy equipment to comply with the FCC’s 800 MHz frequency re-banding requirements. As part of the project, Powerwave was hired to replace key wireless infrastructure components, including donor repeaters, as well as the fiber-optic amplifiers for remote locations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
• Ceragon Networks has unveiled its FibeAir IP-10 platform, a microwave radio solution that provides end-to-end Ethernet link and service Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OA&M) capabilities. FibeAir IP-10 features integrated Ethernet networking and service demarcation functionalities that are optimized for mid- to high-capacity backhaul networks.
• Neural Technologies has added the Minotaur RA CenterView to its revenue assurance offering. Minotaur lets revenue assurance teams ensure that all revenue generated by customers and partner organizations is correctly billed or accounted for and that the processes designed to support the revenue assurance function are working as efficiently as possible.
• Motorola debuted its first WiMAX USB adapter, the USBw 100 in a thumb-drive case. It is compatible with 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5 GHz networks and will ship later this year.
• WiNetworks announced a variety of WiMAX products including base stations, customer-premise equipment, ASN gateways and backhaul hardware. The products are compatible with network technology from Cisco Systems and WiChorus.
