FirstNews Briefs: T-Mobile, Boingo, Sierra Wireless, Averna, Cal-Bay Systems

By Wireless Week staff | September 8, 2014

T-Mobile today promised to beat the big carriers’ best trade-in values on used devices. This offer starts September 17 and is for a limited time. Customers have to call T-Mobile or go online within seven days of completing a trade-in at T-Mobile and tell us where, when and for how much they saw a better deal for their device. If a customer can find a better trade-in offer from a major national carrier, T-Mobile will beat that offer, give them the difference back and add another $50. Eligible device trade-in, qualifying credit, and new device purchase with qualifying service required. Difference in trade-in price and $50 offer applied as a bill credit within 2-3 bill cycles.

Boingo Wireless today announced S.M.A.R.T. Networks, a new approach to providing public Wi-Fi access in airports and other large-scale venues. Boingo’s new S.M.A.R.T network design – which stands for Secure, Multiplatform, Analytics-Driven, Responsive and Tiered – is based on usage data that identified multiple classes of users with significantly different connection and usage profiles.

Sierra Wireless today announced that the Sierra Wireless AirPrime EM7345 embedded wireless module is now certified to operate on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.

Averna, a developer of test solutions and services for communications and electronics device-makers worldwide, today announced it has acquired U.S.-based Cal-Bay Systems, a privately owned provider of test systems, test and measurement solutions, automated testing and vibration monitoring tools.
