FirstNews Briefs: T-Mobile, InterDigital, Samsung, ParStream, Sprint

By Wireless Week staff | June 3, 2014

With news coming out of Apple’s keynote that Wi-Fi Calling will be enabled with iOS 8, T-Mobile’s iPhone customers will soon be able to use T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling.

InterDigital, Inc., a wireless research and development company, today announced that the company’s patent licensing subsidiaries have entered into a patent license agreement, worth just under $500 million, with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. The multi-year agreement also resolves all pending litigation between the companies. The royalty-bearing license agreement sets forth terms covering the sale by Samsung of 3G, 4G and certain future generation wireless products.

ParStream, provider of the Real-Time Database for Data Analytics, announced that Peter M. Jensen has taken on the role as the company’s Acting CEO with immediate effect, based at the company’s Silicon Valley office. Former CEO and co-founder Michael Hummel will focus on ParStream’s European operation and take over responsibility for product management, research and development (R&D).

During the month of June, Sprint is giving customers who originally opted out of its device protection program at the time of purchase another chance to enroll. Regardless of the type of device, for $7 per month for prepaid coverage and a range of $8 to $13 per month for postpaid coverage, customers receive coverage that includes protection from loss, theft, accidental damage, device malfunction and threats to private data.
