Former BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has taken over the reigns at Powermat Technologies, a provider of wireless charging solutions.
Heins replaces company founder and outgoing CEO Ran Poliakine, who will serve as vice chairman of the Powermat board.
Heins takes over as Powermat begins the deployment of wireless charging stations at Starbucks. The company’s board is hoping Heins can guide Powermate into its next phase of growth.
Poliakine said in statement that Heins “possesses the rare combination of deep technological and industry expertise with true leadership ability.”
“Powermat is poised at an important juncture in its evolution and Thorsten will lead its expansion to take the wireless charging solutions we created into the mainstream,” Poliakine said.
BlackBerry let Heins go in November of 2013, when the Canadian OEM announced it was shelving a $4.7 billion deal that would have taken the company private.
John Chen succeeded Heins as CEO of BlackBerry.
