A former Samsung semiconductor design engineer has developed a file-sharing mobile app that is gaining ground in the United States, and has been a boon for Samsung, too. 

Nicole Kim worked for Samsung for six years, then took her career to smaller companies in the fields of engineering and product management before founding her own company, Spika Inc., in 2009.

In October, Spika launched music and video sharing service ShareOn for Android. It enables users to send thousands of pictures or high-quality videos from one phone to another, while all of the data remains stored on a home computer or other device. ShareOn hit iOS this month.

ShareOn can also be used to stream online content to a television, using either an Android or an Apple phone. 

Samsung has been using it too. ShareOn technology helps make Samsung’s music streaming service work with its wireless speakers. Even when she isn’t an employee, Kim keeps giving back to Samsung.
