Samsung announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas yesterday that users of its Internet-connected television and Galaxy Tab will be able to access their Time Warner Cable subscription on both devices.
The service will be available as an app on Samsung’s storefront and gives Time Warner subscribers access to all their cable channels on the Galaxy Tab and Samsung’s LED, LCD and Plasma televisions with Internet connectivity. Users of the Galaxy Tab will only be able to access their Time Warner Cable subscription while they’re at home.
“The era of smart TV is here,” said Boo-Keun Yoon, president of Samsung’ Visual Display Business, in a statement.
Time Warner Cable plans to begin offering the connected home app commercially on more Samsung devices later this year.
Connected televisions have put in a major appearance at CES this year, including a new television from Panasonic pre-loaded with Facebook and Twitter, and several new Internet-connected televisions from LG. Research firm DisplaySearch estimates that one-fifth of all televisions shipped last year came equipped with Internet connectivity.
