Garmin has announced the availability of its first mobile phone. The Nuvifone promises to combine a premium touchscreen phone, mobile Web browser and personal navigator in a “sleek and slim…work of art.”
“The Nuvifone is an all-in-one device offering unmatched integration of utility and function in a single mobile device,” said Cliff Pemble, Garmin’s president and COO, in a statement. “This is the breakthrough product that cell phone and GPS users around the world have been longing for – a single device that does it all.”
The Nuvifone combines complete GPS functionality, as well as premium 3.5G mobile phone capabilities including: 3G connectivity; Google local search capability; a “Where am I?” function that displays users latitude and longitude coordinates and the nearest address and intersection; a tool that helps drivers find their car; numerous mobile entertainment applications; and a video camera.
Garmin expects the Nuvifone will be available in the third quarter of 2008, and plans to release specific pricing and sales partner info soon.
