Everyone has an occasion where guests come over, and then they all begin clamoring for the WiFi password. If the password isn’t readily available, you have to waste several minutes trying to locate it, and then comes the dreaded task of reading it out loud, probably multiple times, until everyone gains access.
What was once a problem, now has a solution with the WiFi Porter, a flat puck-shaped device that utilizes near field communications (NFC). NFC is basically the same technology that allows mobile payments through Apple Pay and Google Pay, but in this instance, it gives guests access to your home WiFi.
The WiFi Porter contains your personal network credentials, so when a guest comes, all they have to do is tap their device on the puck, and a connection is easily made. This happens due to NFC, a short-range technology that allows for the secure exchange of data.
A “join now” notification will appear, and no one has to read out or type a long and arduous WiFi code. Newer phone models such as Androids are more likely to have NFC capabilities, with the technology already fully built into the most recent iPhone series.
For those who don’t have an NFC compatible phone, you can use the QR code on the bottom of the WiFi Porter and connect that way. It requires a quick scan, but it’s still faster than typing it out.
In previous renditions of the technology, users had to install additional apps to make sense of all the data provided by the network. Various businesses could also benefit from the WiFi Porter, making it easier for visitors to get WiFi.
The WiFi Porter can run without a power supply or batteries. It is completely self-sufficient. The WiFi Porter is available for purchase from Ten One Design for $39.95 to $59.95.
