Plink, a visual mobile search company, today announced that it has been bought by Google. Plink is the developer behind PlinkArt, a visual mobile search app that can identify a work of art when users take a photo of it with their mobile phones.
“Google has already shown that it’s serious about investing in this space with Google Goggles, and for the Plink team the opportunity to take our algorithms to Google-scale was just too exciting to pass up,” wrote Plink founders, Mark Cummins and James Philbin, in a blog post.
It’s been only four months since Plink launched publicly and the PlinkArt app already boasts 50,000 users. The app will continue to be available for download and work as it currently does today. However, the company said it won’t be updating the app and will instead focus on development efforts for Google Goggles.
