Smartphone applications provider Handango announced it will offer both paid and free apps for the first Android smartphone device.
Developers can now add Android applications directly to their Handango developer accounts and sell them in one of three ways: give the app away for free; sell the app for a 1-time purchase fee; or sell the app for a monthly, quarterly or annual subscription fee.
Select titles will be made available on Handango for the first Android smartphone, including The Weather Channel for Android, Voice on the Go, ShopSavvy, GoogHelper and many more.
Handango also is sponsoring a contest to award the best free Android app and the best paid Android app uploaded to the Handango catalog by Nov. 7. Each winner is eligible to receive a $25,000 advertising allowance within Handango’s numerous marketing initiatives, which include e-mail marketing, featured products on Handango.com, paid and natural search keywords and online advertising. Winners will be awarded on Dec. 15.
T-Mobile USA is expected to launch the first commercial Android phone, the G1, on Oct. 22.
