AT&T will be switching over to HD Voice later this year as it begins to migrate is voice calling over to its LTE network.
The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital blog reports that AT&T senior vice president Kris Rinne, speaking at Venture Beat’s Mobile Summit, said that HD Voice is part of the company’s LTE strategy.
Last week, T-Mobile announced the imminent arrival of the iPhone 5 to its network and added that the device would support HD Voice. Sprint announced its plans for HD Voice last year.
AT&T’s biggest rival, Verizon, has indicated it will not roll out the technology until 2014.
Rinne also noted that AT&T will begin work on an LTE Advanced network and that it is broadening its embrace of over-the-top services.
