According to a report in Taiwan’s DigiTimes, handset maker HTC is looking into 3G chipset suppliers in addition to Qualcomm.
Although HTC CFO Hui-ming Cheng expressed the company’s desire to not rely on a single chipset vendor as the reason, the report also cited local handset sources that cited Qualcomm’s continued legal battles with Broadcom as a reason the handset maker might be looking for additional chip sources.
Cheng told DigiTimes that the company is unlikely to switch to another chipset platform in a short period of time; he also assured the paper that chipset shortages in the previous quarter will not dramatically affect the handset maker’s revenues in the current quarter.
