AT&T today announced what will be its first HSPA+, LTE-capable tablet, the HTC Jetstream.

The HTC Jetstream is HTC’s first tablet running on the Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) operating system, which was specifically built for tablets.  The tablet features a 10.1-inch HD display, Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and front and rear facing cameras.

AT&T customers can receive discounted tablet pricing after committing to a two-year agreement for a new $35, 3GB monthly data plan. The carrier said that it will offer the HTC Scribe, an optional digital pen accessory, at no additional cost for a limited time.

“This tablet is a beautiful 10.1-inch, LTE powered masterpiece,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of devices for AT&T mobility and consumer markets, in a statement.  “When you combine powerful options like HTC Jetstream with our upcoming LTE technology and nationwide HSPA+ network, it flies.”

The HTC Jetstream will be available Sept. 4 online and in company-owned retail stores for $699.99 with a new two-year contract.

While AT&T already has HSPA+ rolled out across a significant portion of the country, the carrier’s LTE rollout lags considerably behind Verizon Wireless. AT&T recently announced plans to roll out LTE in five markets — Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio — later this summer. The company says that by the end of 2011, it will be able to offer LTE to customers in at least 15 markets, covering 70 million Americans.
