They may not be the nation’s largest cities but they are the best – for mobile network performance, that is.
According to the latest RootMetrics report, Atlanta, Ga. and Chicago, Ill., continued to lead their larger peers to take the number one and number two spots for metro areas with the best network performance in the second half of 2015.
The cities previously earned their top seats in the firm’s first half of 2015 report. The two largest cities by population, New York City and Los Angeles, remained well below on the list at numbers 76 and 94 out of 125, respectively.
But perhaps the star of the show in the most recent metro report was Indianapolis, Ind., which jumped from number 51 overall in the first half of 2015 to number three overall by the end of the year.
According to RootMetrics, the city’s rise in ranking can be attributed to a “dramatic” increase in reliability thanks to “very high marks in getting connected and staying connected for each of the four carriers’ networks.”
RootMetrics said Indianapolis’ call and text performance demonstrated a similarly shocking improvement, with three out of four networks providing a zero percent blocked call rate in the area.
Rounding out the top five cities for best performance were Sacramento, Calif., and Rockford, Ill., in fourth and fifth place.
The five worst metro areas for network performance were Hudson Valley, N.Y., Omaha, Neb., Lancaster Pa., Santa Rosa, Calif., and Denver, Colo.
