Inside Secure, a provider of semiconductor solutions for secure transactions and digital identity, today announced it has entered into an agreement with Intel to provide the company with Inside Secure’s NFC products and technologies.
The agreement gives Intel access to Inside Secure’s software, firmware and core hardware technology for development of future Intel products. In addition, Inside Secure will provide Intel’s Mobile Wireless Group with access to scalable NFC solutions based on the company’s MicroRead, SecuRead and Open NFC products.
Charles Walton, chief technology officer for Inside Secure, said the agreement has both long-term and short-term implications for his company.
“In the short term, we’re providing Intel with access to our current chip solutions,” Walton said. “In the long-term though, we’re really providing access to our software, our firmware, our core hardware technology so that Intel can then go off and build products using our technology.”
Walton said Inside Secure has done most of its work in the smartphone ecosystem, specifically in conjunction with Research In Motion (RIM) on various BlackBerry models. He said the partnership with Intel will prove interesting for the company in that it means Inside Secure will get to start working on some different types of devices.
“We see this as a pretty substantial deal for a company like Inside to start working with a company of Intel’s caliber,” Walton said.
