At the CeBIT show in Germany this week, Yahoo! unveiled its Yahoo! onePlace solution to help consumers better manage their content.
The product is based on the bookmark process. Once in Yahoo! onePlace, the content (news feeds, Websites, videos, images, e-mails, search queries) is automatically updated, with the latest game score or stock price, for example. Content is assigned to categories and tags.
In Yahoo’s example, a user who is planning a holiday to Paris in June could create a “Paris” collection and begin linking it to any information he thinks will be useful to him on his trip: weather conditions, city guides, restaurant reviews, hotel reservations, walking maps, and more. The product will be configured to allow consumers to do the same for literally hundreds of different topics.
Yahoo! onePlace is expected to launch, along with Yahoo! oneConnect, in the second quarter.
In other news, Google launched Google Gears for mobile, which lets users access Gears-enabled mobile Web apps even when they’re offline. It’s initially going to be available for Internet Explorer Mobile on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices.
