German-based IP-Com has filed a suit against Nokia, alleging the world’s largest mobile phone maker infringed on its mobile communications technology patents. IP-Com is backed by Fortress Investment, which owns nearly 50% of the company.
IP-Com said the suit is the result of Nokia refusing to pay $17.77 billion for using IP-Com’s patented technology. Along with monetary compensation, IP-Com wants Nokia to stop using its patents.
Nokia has said that it believes the patents involved in the suit are invalid and that it plans to “vigorously” defend itself in the suit.
Nokia is still embroiled in numerous patent litigation suits with U.S.-based Qualcomm.
