Orange announced that it sold more 70,000 iPhones in December. The company had hoped to sell between 50,000 and 100,000 units. Apple’s heavily hyped handset went on sale in France at the end of November. Although sales figures met the carrier’s projections, iPhones weren’t flying off the shelf over the holiday season as some had predicted. According to the carrier, nearly half of the sales occurred during the first five days the device went on sale.
And iPhone sales in the U.K. remain unremarkable. Though 02 and Carphone Warehouse reported spikes in sales the week before Christmas, the U.K.-based Website Mobile Today reported most locations missing sales projections, with 02 stores only selling on average one per week.
