USA Technologies (USAT) today announced a partnership with Isis to enable up to 7,500 vending machines in Austin and Salt Lake City to accept mobile payements via USAT’s NFC-enabled ePort technology and ePort Connect service.

According to a press release, the technology will work with the Isis Mobile Wallet, which is aimes at simplifying the shopping and paying experience as consumers make vending machine purchases by tapping their phone to the machine. 

As of September 30, 2012, approximately 50 percent of USAT’s ePort Connect service base of 174,000 connections utilized NFC-enabled ePort technology.

“Our work with Isis is a great example of how we are executing our comprehensive mobile payments strategy, including leveraging USAT’s growing footprint of NFC enabled touch points to bring more value to our customers,” said Stephen P. Herbert, charimand and CEO of USA Technologies. 

To accept the Isis Mobile Wallet, vending operators can install USAT’s NFC-enabled technology and display the type of signage typical for other payment networks.

Trials of Isis’ NFC-based mobile payments service went live in October in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City today after its planned summer launch was delayed last month.

The program will give Isis backers Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile USA an indication of whether the mobile wallet could be a source of revenue.
