States in the South and Southwest tend to be Android-friendly compared to the rest of the country, and states in the middle of the country and Northeast lean toward iOS, according to new data released by Jumptap today.
The mobile ad network, which shares trends in its monthly Mobile STAT data report, says states like California, Texas and Florida over-index for Android use, while New England states and the Midwest over-index for iOS use. BlackBerry use, which over-indexed in New York, was also included in the geographic data.
Android continues to be top dog in terms of overall share, with iOS a close second, but iOS ads continue to outperform ads on other operating systems, according to the report.
The report also breaks out ad performance on Android devices by handset and carrier, revealing that Sony Ericcson devices are the only devices with ad performance nearing that on iOS devices. Ads running on Sony Ericcson devices in the first half of 2011 are averaging a 0.54 percent click-through rate, making it the only Android handset over the industry average 0.52 percent, but still not as high as iOS devices at 0.78 percent.
Data for the report is based on the first half of 2011 from more than 83 million unique users on Jumptap’s mobile ad network.
