Keysight Technologies Introduced 5G Exploration Library

By Keysight Technologies | October 22, 2014

Santa Rosa, CA – Keysight Technologies introduced the Keysight EEsof EDA 5G Baseband Exploration Library. Providing ready-to-use reference signal processing intellectual property for 5G technology research, this library increases the productivity for system architects and baseband physical layer (PHY) designers.

Keysight’s 5G Baseband Exploration Library supports various 5G candidate waveforms for orthogonal and non-orthogonal multi-carrier communication systems, including advanced MIMO and beamforming signal processing. The library also provides transmitter and reference receiver modeling examples that can be easily re-designed to achieve optimal performance for comparison of each of the candidate standards proposals.

“Our new 5G library is the first product of its kind, providing a cost-effective way for design teams to jumpstart their 5G research while the standard continues to evolve,” said Charles Plott, marketing manager of Keysight EEsof EDA. “Our customers can rely on this innovative new business model to help them explore, validate and integrate the latest PHY developments as they happen, reducing hundreds of thousands of dollars in R&D costs, as well as schedule and technology risks, in a very complex environment.”

The new library consists of source code, models, subsystems, simulation examples, and infrastructure components for the high quality, rapid development, and verification of advanced digital modems using Keysight’s SystemVue electronic system level simulation platform. The source code instills algorithmic confidence and provides an independent self-documenting reference library that allows system architects, algorithm developers, and baseband hardware designers to quickly replace and modify blocks and subsystems to meet the needs of their specific end product. SystemVue’s integrated simulation environment allows users to investigate, implement, and verify their communications PHY signal processing designs with dynamic link-level scenarios.

The W1465 SystemVue System Architect simulation environment is used to develop innovative designs for R&D. Adding the new 5G Baseband Exploration Library to the mix provides:

  • Advanced digital signal processing blocks for 5G candidate waveform technologies.
  • End-to-end physical layer transmit and receive simulation models
  • Signaling schemes for MIMO channels including spatial multiplexing, space-time coding and multiple detection methods.
  • Reference waveform generation to verify RF circuit designs.

“Keysight provides the largest array of design and measurement solutions being applied to wireless research,” said Roger Nichols, Keysight’s 5G program manager. “We are excited to introduce this first of many 5G-focused solutions that accelerate deployment of the fifth generation of mobile wireless.”
