Kyocera Wireless is reportedly in talks with Virgin Mobile about supplying handsets for the Indian market. Virgin Mobile plans to launch MVNO service in India as part of a partnership with CDMA operator Tata Teleservices under the brand Virgin on Feb. 24.
“At this stage, we are in preliminary discussions with Virgin Mobile to be their supplier for CDMA handsets for India,” Rodney Lanthorne, president and chairman of Kyocera Wireless, told news site LiveMint.com “Virgin wants to show CDMA can be a cool phone in India given that GSM is more popular here.”
Kyocera recently acquired the handset unit of Sanyo, as part of its push to expand into the United States and other markets.
