Latest Consumer Communications & Networking Technology Trends to be Explored at IEEE CCNC

NEW YORK, NY (November 6, 2013) — The IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC 2013) will hold its 11th annual event dedicated to the advancement of consumer networking technologies, applications and services from January 10 – 13, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Annually held in conjunction with the 2014 International CES, IEEE CCNC was organized by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) to provide a global venue for sharing the latest developments and innovations in consumer communications with researchers, developers, and practitioners based throughout the world. 

Featuring hundreds of presentations consisting of keynotes, business panels, technical sessions, workshops and tutorials, IEEE CCNC will initiate its comprehensive schedule by debuting several prototype demonstrations at the IEEE booth (#30242) located in the South Hall of CES 2014. In addition to highlighting upcoming IEEE conferences, the organization’s dedication to scholarship in various engineering disciplines and IEEE ComSoc sponsored standards and standardization projects, the IEEE booth will also demo several innovative consumer electronics achievements developed by IEEE CCNC demonstration session participants. In the past, this has included the presentations of leading global researchers showcasing their latest efforts for securely downloading keys in RFID devices; enabling new e-health business models by converging IP-based and non-IP-based home networks; and overcoming the usability problems of mobile tablet devices such as smartphones, which do not use keyboards with a new CAPTCHA technique.  

IEEE CCNC 2014 will then officially commence on January 10 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino with a full day of workshops and tutorials. Among these will be the sessions on:

  • Vehicular Networking: Standards, Protocols, Applications & Deployment Plans covering the latest networking standardization activities, protocol designs and simulation tools involved with enabling wide spread vehicular, vehicle traffic, driver, passenger and pedestrian communications applications.
  • Carrier Ethernet & Provider Backbone Bridge Networks (PBBN) detailing the role of Carrier Ethernet and Provide Backbone Bridge (PBB) architectures, services, QoS and OAM in this $100 billion marketplace.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) Paradigms in Consumer Applications discussing IoT dimensions including the web standards used to connect a multitude of Silos, the platforms currently in development to solve interoperability problems, and the many differing enabling technologies currently available to integrate different data sources.
  • Online Games: Traffic Characterization & Network Support featuring the rise of new real-time interactive services and networked online games.
  • Unveiling Vehicular Resources, Capabilities, Applications, Challenges and Solutions exploring the on-board resources of smart vehicles and their capabilities and applications. In addition to detailing how smart vehicles can enhance driving experience and on-road services, it will also demonstrate how they can play a pivotal role in critical scenarios such as natural disasters and cases of medical emergency.
  • Next Generation Social Television: The Future of Television examining the social disruptions in the TV industry as well as how the Internet and mobile and social networks are impacting TV’s future from crowd sourcing to news gathering and analytics. 

Other IEEE CCNC 2014 highlights will include the conference’s robust keynote and executive business panel presentations, which will offer the insights of leading authorities representing nearly every consumer electronic area. Dr. Yoonchae Cheong, Senior Vice President of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology at Samsung Electronics, will be among the many noted speakers, who will address key communications issues such as the rising development and proliferation of cellular systems and wireless technologies for use in non-IT environments like health and medicine. 

In addition, the remainder of IEEE CCNC 2014 will be filled with hundreds of business and technical demonstrations and presentations offering the latest developments and technical solutions in home and consumer networking, cloud computing, crowd sourcing, information integration and analytics. These will be delivered in conjunction with the event’s 10 main technical tracks consisting of Wireless Communication; Smart Spaces and Wireless Networks; Multimedia & Entertainment Networking and Services; Peer-to-Peer Networking and Cloud-based Content Distribution; Emerging and Innovative Consumer Technologies and Applications; Security, Privacy and Content Protection; Mobile Device, Platform and Communication; Social Networking; Networked Games; and Green Computing and Communications.
