Legere’s 2016 Predictions: Binge On To Add 24 New Streaming Partners

By Diana Goovaerts | December 31, 2015

In his look ahead to 2016, T-Mobile CEO John Legere this week forecast that the Un-carrier will more than double the number of streaming services on its new Binge On video platform.

According to Legere’s predictions, T-Mobile will add “at least 24 more” streaming partners to the video service in 2016.

Announced in November, Binge On allows Un-carrier customers to stream mobile video without using their high-speed data allotment. Initial participants in the service include Crackle, Encore, ESPN, Fox Sports, Fox Sports Go, HBO Now, HBO Go, Hulu, MLB, Movieplex, NBC Sports, Netflix, Sling TV, Sling Box, SHOWTIME, STARZ, T-Mobile TV, Univision Deportes, Ustream, Vessel, Vevo and VUDU. Binge On also includes content from Verizon’s go90 and AT&T’s DirecTV streaming services.

One huge get for Binge On in 2016 would be a partnership with Google-owned Internet video giant YouTube. Videos from YouTube are not yet covered by Binge On, but T-Mobile COO Mike Sievert has said previously that the Un-carrier would love to have the video service on board.

In his post, Legere also predicted that T-Mobile would be at the center of several rumors about mergers and acquisitions in 2016. Though Legere said he wanted to take the issue “head on,” he neither confirmed nor denied that T-Mobile would be involved in any such proceedings.

“The reality is that I am sure this industry will look incredibly different in a few years, one way or another, and no matter what happens T-Mobile will be positioned for success,” he wrote. “We will continue to compete and win on our own and we’ll see how the market landscape changes over time.”
