Flat-rate provider MetroPCS announced that, through one of its subsidiaries, it has entered into a license purchase agreement with PTA Communications for 10 MHz of PCS spectrum for the Jacksonville, Fla., area.
MetroPCS also has entered into agreements with Cleartalk PCS and PTA-FLA for the purchase of its subscribers and certain network assets used in providing services in Jacksonville.
MetroPCS says that these acquisitions, combined with the additional wireless sites MetroPCS plans to build in Jacksonville, will allow it to begin offering service to an estimated 1.5 million people during the second quarter.
“Residents in Jacksonville will soon be able to enjoy our unlimited, flat-rate, simple and affordable plans,” Roger Linquist, MetroPCS chairman of the board, president and CEO, said in a statement. “We look forward to providing future MetroPCS subscribers with coverage in Jacksonville and to further expanding our extensive Florida coverage for our current subscribers.”
The acquisitions are conditional and subject to regulatory approval.
