MetroPCS built on its LTE launches with two new markets and expanded its wireless service to cover most of the country.
The prepaid carrier says its new Metro USA service covers more than 90 percent of the U.S. population and launched its LTE service in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
MetroPCS now provides LTE service in five cities, including Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit and Las Vegas, and has launches planned in nine other markets later this year and into early 2011.
Separately, the company reported it added 223,000 customers in the third quarter, bringing its total customer base to 7.85 million.
“With our 4G LTE service offerings, expanding national coverage and our compelling handset line-up, which includes smartphones, our pay-in-advance subscribers have an experience that is equivalent to that which will be enjoyed by traditional post-pay customers,” said MetroPCS CEO Roger Linquist in a statement.
Churn improved by 200 basis points to 3.8 percent this year from 5.8 percent last year, though ARPU slipped to $39.69 from $41.08 last year. Sales rose 14 percent to $1.02 billion, boosting profits to $77 million.
