MetroPCS Communications today added Detroit to its list of commercial LTE deployments, joining Las Vegas and Dallas with monthly plans starting at $55, including taxes and regulatory fees.
In conjunction with the network launch, MetroPCS will offer customers the LTE-enabled handset Craft by Samsung Mobile, the same device being offered in its previous LTE market launches. The handset will be offered in Detroit area stores and online for $299, plus tax after $50 instant rebate.
New features available to Detroit customers include MetroStudio, powered by RealNetworks, available on the $60 service plan. It provides access to entertainment content such as full-track downloads, ringtones and ringback tones, as well as premium video content from NBC Universal, BET and Univision. A new social networking and instant messaging feature provides a single interface to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, AIM, MSN and Yahoo! IM.
The Craft comes with a 3.3-inch AMOLED screen and a 2GB MicroSD card preloaded with Paramount Pictures’ movie “Star Trek-The Future Begins.” The device includes a slide-out qwerty keyboard, Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, 3.2-megapixel camera with flash and camcorder and Wi-Fi.
MetroPCS plans to launch LTE later this year and early 2011 in markets that include Boston, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Tampa. MetroPCS plans to further expand LTE coverage in 2011 along with the launch of additional devices to increase its portfolio of feature phones, touch screens, smartphones and 4G handsets.
