Prepaid carrier MetroPCS has landed a smartphone from Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup to support its new LTE services.
The Samsung Galaxy Indulge is the first LTE-capable Android smartphone to hit the market. The device comes equipped with Android 2.2 Froyo, a 1GHz processor, 3-megapixel camera and a 4GB microSD card preloaded with the action flick Ironman 2.
“Mobile consumers no longer have to choose between low cost service and high-end Android handsets,” said MetroPCS President and CEO Roger Linquist in a statement. “Instead, they can truly have it all by being able to select from a full spectrum of feature and smartphones paired with 4G LTE services at an unmatched value.”
The Indulge will go on sale in MetroPCS stores and online later this week for $399 on a no-contract basis. MetroPCS offers $40, $50 and $60 plans for its LTE service, which is available in 13 metropolitan areas including Boston, New York and San Francisco.
MetroPCS launched its first LTE phone, the Samsung Craft, in September of last year. The phone costs $249 after a $50 mail-in rebate. The Samsung Craft and the Galaxy Indulge are the only two devices running on MetroPCS’ LTE network.
