The former head of Motorola’s home and networks mobility business, Daniel Moloney, is returning to the company as president of its new handset and set-top box division after a four-month stint at electronic components manufacturer Technitrol.
Moloney took the helm as CEO of Technitrol in March but rejoined Motorola amid Technitrol’s divesture of its electrical contact products group, which was announced yesterday.
As president of Motorola Mobility, Moloney will oversee the company’s set-top box business, which is now in the same division as the company’s handset unit under Motorola’s restructuring plan. He will begin in his new role on Sept. 1 and will report to Sanjay Jha, co-CEO of Motorola and CEO of Motorola Mobility.
In a statement, Jha said he was “delighted” that Moloney decided to return to Motorola. Moloney had worked in various senior-level capacities at Motorola for nearly 10 years before announcing his intention to leave in February.
“I look forward to this exciting opportunity and to working with Sanjay and Motorola Mobility’s leadership team again,” Moloney said. “I am confident that together we can capitalize on the opportunities ahead as an independent public company.”
Moloney will oversee Motorola Mobility’s Home business, supply chain, information technology and government affairs. He also will help prepare Motorola Mobility for its launch as an independent, publicly traded company.
