Motorola announced late Friday that it laid off another 1,600 employees during the fourth quarter, and expects to incur pre-tax charges of about $90 million in costs associated with the layoffs. That figure includes about $9 million in exit costs for leased facilities that are part of the company’s cost reduction plan.
During the first half of last year, Motorola announced layoffs totaling 7,500 with an expected $311 million in costs associated with the job cuts during the first three quarters of last year. The company said the cuts affected all three of its business segments.
