A German court has ordered Motorola to stop selling smartphones in Germany, according to Reuters.
The court ruled Motorola Deutschland and Motorola Mobility USA infringed on a patent owned by LPKF Laser & Electronics AG. The patent pertains to laser direct structuring used in mobile phone antennas.
Germany is an important market for Motorola. The company’s current crop of low-cost Android phones have garnered good reviews.
In the latest Kantar Worldpanel numbers, Germany showed an overwhelming preference for Android phones, netting the OS more than 80 percent of the market.
The European Information Technology Observatory projected Germany bought 26 million smartphones in 2013 and that 60 percent of 14-29 year olds owned smartphones.
