Motorola CEO Greg Brown said he is looking for a new leader with proven consumer electronics knowledge to head the company’s struggling mobile phone unit. Brown took the unit over from Stu Reed early last month, but during an analyst meeting Webcast, he said it was a priority to stabilize the unit and find a division leader with experience in mobile phones or consumer electronics. He currently spends about 80% of his time working with the handset unit, he said.
Brown also reiterated company expectations for a continued rough year, but that he was still working on a recovery based on improving products. While the company has been good at designing cell phone hardware, Brown said it could improve on software development and narrow down its choice of platforms.
Brown also said the company also will be recruiting new expertise in product management, software and marketing.
