Motorola Solutions announced its acquisition of Twisted Pair Solutions, a company specializing in push-to-talk over broadband applications.

Twisted Pair’s WAVE software provides integrated talk, text and messaging functions for smartphone, tablets and PCs. The application comes in desktop, dispatch and web flavors and unifies communications while bumping up interoperability with land mobile radios and PBX systems. The company said its Its communication platform can be deployed as an on-premise enterprise solution or as a private managed cloud solution.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We recognize that our customers have multiple communications technology options for connecting land mobile radios, wireless broadband networks and smart devices. The acquisition of Twisted Pair enables Motorola Solutions to address all of those choices and accelerate push-to-talk expansion across multiple technologies,” Bob Schassler, senior vice president of government solutions at Motorola Solutions, said in a statement.

Twisted Pair will now be integrated into Motorola Solutions’ Government Solutions business.

Push-to-talk popularity seemingly took a big hit this year when Sprint finalized the shutdown of its Nextel network. But Sprint and other carriers still offer IP-based push-to-talk options to their business and enterprise customers.
