Motorola announced plans to close its handset manufacturing operations in Singapore by the end of the year. The closures is part of the company’s previously announced “global cost reduction initiative.” Motorola said that the decision to stop manufacturing in Singapore will result in the loss of 700 jobs.

Motorola said it plans to keep its Asia-Pacific headquarters in the country as well as its research and software development units.
