Mozilla yesterday officially took the beta wraps off its new Firefox 4 mobile browser for Android and Maemo devices. Mozilla was touting its new mobile browser, which syncs with the desktop version, at CTIA in Orlando just last week.
Firefox is available at the Android Market for free, as well as for download on Maemo devices from Mozilla’s website.
Firefox for mobile allows users to take their information from the desktop browser to their mobiles, with features such tabs, bookmarks, history and add-ons all synced via the cloud.
Add-ons are extensions to the browser, similar to what Google offers at its Chrome Web Store. Add-ons allow users to customize their mobile browsing experience with things such as one-touch weather and appearance themes, among others.
Mozilla says that Firefox for mobile is up to three times faster than the stock browser on Android. The company cites major enhancements to the JavaScript engine for the bump in speed.
