Verizon has tapped Samsung Mobile to help improve LTE performance indoors.
According to a press release, Samsung Mobile will deliver a comprehensive and scalable LTE solution to Verizon Wireless, including femtocells, plus core network elements and a complete element management system.
Verizon plans to deploy Samsung’s solution later this year as “part of a seamless LTE experience for customers in indoor environments.” Verizon did not name specific venues where it would be deploying the soluuions.
Femtocells provide coverage in specific areas and each can provide more than 60 simultaneous connections to the LTE network.
Adam Koeppe, vice president of network planning for Verizon, said in a statement that the femtocell opportunity with small- and medium-size businesses continues to grow.
ABI Research last year forecasts the market for enterprise and consumer femtocells would return to growth after lackluster 2011 and 2012 with an increase in unit volumes in 2013 and 2014 and year-on-year growth outpacing our last forecasts. ABI estimates shipments will reach 5.7 million units in 2014 compared to 3.8 million units in 2013.
