Apple’s new iPad Air 2 not only includes faster wireless, it will also allow you to pick your flavor.
Cupertino’s new slates include a single preinstalled SIM that will allow users to choose service from just about any major carrier.
The feature could be a catalyst for competition in the space of short-term prepaid data plans.
For instance, an iPad owner travelling to Seattle for the week can now choose from Carrier X, Y and Z and select whichever plan happens to be the cheapest.
Apple says it has improved the wireless connections on iPad Air 2 as well. The company says the iPad Air 2 can support Wi‑Fi with speeds up to 866 Mbps. Meanwhile, the cellular models can support connection up to 150 Mbps — a 50 percent increase over previous models.
