• Syniverse Technologies announced that it has 75 operator contracts for its Syniverse DataNet anti-fraud solution. Named best roaming product in 2008 by the GSM Association (GSMA), Syniverse DataNet has been chosen by multiple operators looking to dramatically reduce the risk of roaming fraud to their networks. This week Syniverse is meeting with more than 65 operators from 32 countries at a private event in Florida to discuss a number of industry issues, including roaming fraud protection.
• Telcordia, a developer of IP, wireline and mobile telecommunication software and services, and Gantek Technologies, a provider of information and communication technologies in Turkey and the surrounding region, announced that the Telcordia Number Portability Clearinghouse and Telcordia Number Management System have been selected by Avea and Vodafone to facilitate number porting in Turkey.
• Thai-based mobile operator DTAC has taken the first delivery of what will be 1,500 EDGE base stations from Nokia Siemens Networks. The Flexi Base Station technology enables operators to minimize the number of base station sites and the need for air conditioning at the sites. Moreover, the solution allows operators to deploy software features to optimize the use of radio access for wireless communications. Nokia Siemens Networks says it has made achievements in reducing energy consumption throughout its base station portfolio, achieving energy consumption levels of 800W and 500W respectively for typical GSM and WCDMA base stations. Going forward, Nokia Siemens Networks has set even more ambitious targets: to further reduce the energy consumption of its GSM and WCDMA base stations to 650W and 300W, respectively, by 2010.
• South Korea’s Posdata announced that it has been selected to supply Mobile WiMAX equipment to Super-iMAX, a telecommunication provider in Uzbekistan. Last October, KT Corporation acquired Super-iMAX to launch wireless Internet and broadband services with 2.3 GHz spectrum in the Uzbekistan region. Super-iMAX will begin offering Mobile WiMAX services in September 2008 and aims to expand their services nationwide. Under the terms of the contract, POSDATA will provide Mobile WiMAX base stations, ASN-gateways, network management systems, as well as terminals for service subscribers.
• Mformation Technologies and Bridgewater Systems have announced the integration of Mformation Service Manager with the Bridgewater Systems service control and subscriber data management solution. Through this integration, WiMAX operators will be able to automatically detect, provision and manage WiMAX devices over the air using industry-standard IP and OMA DM protocols, thereby reducing service introduction costs, enabling new flexible supply channels for WiMAX devices, and immediate subscriber access to WiMAX services. The integrated solution is being implemented with a tier-1 WiMAX service provider in North America.
