• UTStarcom announced that it has signed a new contract to supply its Internet protocol television equipment to Sri Lanka Telecom Public. Under the terms of the “multi-million dollar” agreement SLT use UTStarcom’s RollingStream platform to bring IPTV services to its growing customer base throughout Sri Lanka.
• KORE Telematics, a digital wireless services provider specializing in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, announced that Navman Wireless North America uses the KORE network for vehicle tracking and fleet management throughout the continent. Navman Wireless North America is a leading global provider of fleet tracking and management solutions based on GPS technology for small- to medium-sized vehicle fleets. With KORE, Navman can offer its customers a choice of GSM or CDMA technologies-whichever best suits each customer’s specific requirements-over a single, integrated service platform while maintaining direct connectivity to Tier 1 wireless carriers.
• Polaris Wireless has announced that Union Telephone, Cellular One of N.E. Arizona, and SimmetryPCS have deployed Polaris Wireless’ Wireless Location Signatures (WLS) technology to meet the Federal Communications Commission’s E911 Phase II compliance requirements. Polaris Wireless’ solution is now deployed across 39 out of the 50 United States and by top tier wireless service providers including the U.S.’s largest GSM operator and T-Mobile USA.
• Syniverse Technologies, a provider of technology and business solutions for the global telecommunications industry, announced that Méditel has selected several Syniverse solutions that promise to both simplify the complex and costly processes that underlie data and financial clearing, as well as protect Méditel against the growing global threat of roaming fraud. Méditel, Morocco’s largest private telecom operator, will use Syniverse Data Clearing House (DCH) for GSM, Syniverse Financial Clearing House (FCH) for GSM as well as Syniverse DataNet, the company’s roaming anti-fraud service, as a total solution.
• WiMAX vendor, GCT Semiconductor and Malaysia’s Green Packet have announced a collaboration to develop seamless connectivity and handover between WiMAX and Wi-Fi. The Green Packet “Intouch Connectivity Manager” integrates Green Packet’s Mobile IP solution with GCT’s GDM7215, a single-chip solution supporting both mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16e Wave 2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. The company’s say the seamless connectivity solution will soon be available to Malaysians. Green Packet has already signed up Malaysia’s first and largest WiMAX operator, Packet One Networks (P1) to roll out this technology in the coming months.
• Glu Mobile, a global publisher of mobile games, announced a partnership with SEGA Europe to publish “Beijing 2008-The Official Mobile Phone Game of the Olympic Games” and “Sonic at the Olympic Games” throughout EMEA, Australia and New Zealand. Beijing 2008, developed by SEGA, will feature four events. The partnership between the companies reportedly follows the success of previous SEGA titles developed and published by Glu for mobile phones. No financial details were announced.
