All the i’s have been dotted and t’s have been crossed in Nokia’s acquisition of OZ Communications, a privately held company based in Montreal, Canada.
OZ has 5.5 million monthly paid subscribers. Its technology lets mobile users access instant messaging (IM) services from AOL, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo!.
With the purchase of OZ, Nokia hopes to address the consumer messaging market by providing an affordable mass-market e-mail and IM platform for Nokia Series 40 devices, complementing the existing portfolio of mobile messaging solutions for Nokia S60 devices.
OZ has about 220 employees. The acquisition was initially announced Sept. 30, 2008. Financial details were not disclosed.
