Nokia released some figures about its Ovi Store today, saying users of the application storefront are downloading 2.3 million applications every day to Symbian smartphones.
The company also said more than 200,000 people sign up every day to the Ovi Store, which is available in nearly 200 countries. Seventy developers and publishers selling their apps on the Ovi Store have passed 1 million downloads.
“Developers are looking at Ovi as a good business decision and a chance to innovate and create next-generation mobile experiences for our family of new Symbian smartphones,” said Tero Ojanpera, executive vice president of Nokia Services, in a statement.
Nokia is working to court developers by updating its Ovi storefront to have a “friendlier look and feel,” faster content discovery and more popular content choices such as foursquare. The new storefront debuts on its N8 handset and will soon be available on other Symbian devices.
The company is also offering developers new tools and benefits like free Java and Symbian signing, in-app purchase and beta in-app advertising programs, improved revenue share and better developer analytics. The company has updated its Qt SDK to reduce the number of lines of code required to develop for Symbian by 70 percent.
