The Greek island of Patmoswill soon get a wireless network covering the entire island. Nortel will provide the equipment.
The Nortel wireless mesh solution will use eight core nodes wirelessly connected with a Nortel Wireless Bridge 7230 and 50 Nortel WP7220 and WP7215 access nodes.
Nortel will work with Unisystems, a Greek systems integrator, to design and install the network for the island’s Internet service provider 12Net.
12Net was established in the 1990 by Nicholas Negreponte, the co-founder of the MIT Media Lab, the laboratory which contributed to the development of the Nortel Wireless Mesh system. Negreponte has a home on the island.
