Asian carriers NTT DoCoMo (Japan) China Mobile (China) and KT Corporation (South Korea) today announced a broad-based business agreement.
Details of the deal were slim, but NTT DoCoMo says the partnership “aims to provide mobile customers with new experiences and greater convenience in the rapidly growing regional market of Northeast Asia, where increasing international cooperation is creating opportunities for new business development.”
According to a press release, the three companies have created a “business cooperation committee” that will consider opportunities for collaboration, such as international roaming, enterprise services, LTE and other network technologies, smartphones and common platforms.
NTT DoCoMo currently serves more than 57 million customers in Japan. As of 2010, China Mobile offered service to 570 million customers, and KT Corporation in South Korea currently boasts about 20 million fixed-line customers. KT Freetel, KT Corporation’s majority-owned subsidiary, controls 32 percent of mobile market share.
