Nationwide prepaid carrier PlatinumTel alleges that its competitors U.S. Mobile and EZ Stream are falsely advertising the number of minutes they offer in their service plans.
In a complaint filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, PlatinumTel alleges that the companies violated advertising standards set forth in the Lanham Act, the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and the Illinois Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act in connection with prepaid wireless services.
Specifically, the company claims that U.S. Mobile’s and EZ Stream’s ads “significantly and routinely misrepresent the minutes available under their prepaid wireless programs.”
PlatinumTel offers services on a 3G Network that reaches 280 million people. The company, founded in 2001, is headquartered in Chicago and works with distributors across the country.
