ProTek Devices Unveils TVS Arrays for Circuit Protection in Smartphones and More

By ProTek Devices | November 20, 2013

The GBLCxxCDN Series consists of five ultra-low capacitance, low leakage current, TVS arrays for protection against ESD, surge and other overvoltage destructive events

TEMPE, Ariz. – Nov. 18, 2013 – ProTek Devices has introduced a new series of transient voltage suppressor arrays (TVS arrays) for circuit protection in applications such as, smartphones and other portable electronics, USB interfaces, and Ethernet 10/100/1000 base T. The new GBLCxxCDN series consists of five ultra-low capacitance (3pF typical), low leakage current, TVS arrays. They are available in a bidirectional configuration. At higher operating frequencies or faster edge rates, insertion loss and signal integrity are a major concern. The GBLCxxCDN series also helps resolve these concerns.

ProTek Devices’ GBLCxxCDN series is rated at 350 Watts for an 8/20 micro amps waveshape. The series is compatible with IEC standard 61000-4-2 for electrostatic discharge (ESD): air – 15kV, contact – 8kV. It exceeds level 4 of the standard by handling a 25kV air discharge and 10kV contact. It’s also compatible with IEC standards 61000-4-4 for electrical fast transients (EFT): 40A – 5/50ns, and 61000-4-5 (surge).

As an ideal replacement for multi-layer varistors (MLV 0805), the TVS arrays are designed to protect one power or I/O port. The GBLCxxCDN series provides ESD protection of > 25kV, a low clamping voltage, and RoHS and REACH compliance. The five devices – and their rated stand-off voltages – that make up the series are: the GBLC05CDN at 5.0 volts; the GBLC08CDN at 8.0 volts; the GBLC12CDN at 12.0 volts; the GBLC15CDN at 15.0 volts; and the GBLC24CDN at 24.0 volts.

The TVS arrays are provided in a molded JEDEC DFN-2 package with an approximate weight of 0.8 milligrams. The package features lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed). The series has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0.
