MetroPCS Communications, a specialist in flat-rate, no-contract cellular service, yesterday reported $50 million profit on $679 million of revenue for Q2 2008.
Subscribership increased by 184,000 to 4.6 million in the quarter, but the average revenue per user (ARPU) of $41.77 decreased $1.41 compared to last year and decreased $0.45 when compared to the previous quarter.
Roger Linquist, chairman, president and CEO, focused his prepared comments on the company’s growing reach. MetroPCS recently expanded into Philadelphia and will add Boston and New York to its roster in the first half of 2009, he said. He also cited MetroPCS’ recently introduced feature for letting customers bring their own CDMA phones, but that is something most other carriers already do.
The company reaffirmed its guidance for the year-end results being net subscriber additions 1.25 to 1.52 million.
