Here’s a fun video to help get you through your Hump Day. We’re all familiar with Thor, Marvel superhero and Asgardian god of thunder who wields the large, square-headed hammer, Mjolnir—which doesn’t just answer to anyone. Only those who are “worthy” can lift the enchanted weapon.
So says its inscription: “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” (If you’re a fan of this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, this made for quite the hilarious scene, during which our favorite superheroes, from Iron Man to Captain America, attempt to pick up the hammer off a coffee table.)
A YouTuber by the name of Sufficiently Advanced has created his own replica Mjolnir, incorporating a fingerprint scanner in the handle that (at his touch) deactivates a microwave oven transformer electromagnet built into the head of the weapon.
Thus, to the confusion of dozens of bystanders in Venice Beach, California, the hammer somehow answers only to him—remaining unmoved if they themselves try to pick it up off the ground.
All I can say is, thankfully, no one threw out their backs.
