Apple will reportedly hold an invite-only event Oct. 22 to show off its refreshed iPad and iPad mini. All Things D has the scoop again after accurately predicting the dates for this year’s iPhone launch and last year’s iPad Mini event.
The event will also reportedly devote some time to the new Mac Pro and the company’s desktop operating system refresh, OSX Mavericks.
Rumors surrounding the fifth-generation iPad suggest it will have a thinner bezel than its predecessor while managing to be thinner and lighter overall. It’s also likely to upgrade its processor to Apple’s A7 and improve over the camera performance of the iPad 4. The second-generation iPad mini is also rumored to get a processor boost along with a Retina display. But, a Reuters report hinted that the new iPad mini launch could be delayed until 2014.
It’s unclear if either the new iPad or iPad mini will feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the home button on the iPhone 5S.
Should the iPad launch happen on Oct. 22, International Business Times predicts the release date will be Nov. 1, which would mimic the new iPhones that were released 10 days after their launch.
In the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple sold a record 22.9 million iPads, a big number driven by the successful launch of the iPad mini.
