Report: Apple Launching New iPhones Sept. 9

By Ben Munson | August 5, 2014

Apple will hold an iPhone event on Sept. 9, according to Re/code.

The date, falling on a traditional Tuesday for iPhone announcements, comes from John Paczkowski. Last year, his colleague Ina Fried—back when both worked at All Things D—correctly reported the iPhone 5S and 5C would be announced on Sept. 10. The current iPhone models were then released on Sept. 20.

If the report is correct and Apple sticks to that trend, the new iPhone (iPhones?) will be wrought upon the enthusiastic masses on Sept. 19.

All signs point toward Apple releasing two bulked-up versions of its iPhone—one with a 4.7-inch display and one with a 5.5-inch display.

If the reports are true, this will be the second year now that Apple is making two new iPhones available simultaneously. And the company is reportedly gearing up for record-setting demand. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Apple’s initial iPhone orders were in the 70-80 million units range, far eclipsing the 50-70 million iPhone 5S/5C units it ordered ahead of last year’s launch.
